Plumbing, Welding, Boilermaking, Electrical, Bricklaying - Overview:
The Trade Test is a test of your knowledge, skills and competence in especially Artisan occupations. It involves theoretical and practical demonstration of knowledge and skill.
A Trade Test Certificate is usually required by employers before they will employ or advance you in your career and allow you to do work at a certain level.
There are two categories:
– Section 26 Test
– Artisan Recognition of Prior Learning

Outline
Section 26 Trade Test
N2 Certificate including the four relevant subjects of maths, engineering science and a fourth subject as required by the trade; or
Technical trade theory programs quality assured by a SETA deemed to be equivalent to NQF level 3; or
Relevant Engineering NCV Certificate with seven subjects at NQF level 3; or
Technical Grade 11 with Maths, Science, Language and related trade theory subject; or
Relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (T, S or N stream.)
In addition to the above mentioned minimum level of educational qualification the applicant
must also have:- successfully completed all off the job practical training unit standards (in the case of learnerships) or modules (in the case of an apprenticeship) of an artisan learning program at an accredited training provider as verifiable by training records.
- satisfied the requirements of the structured workplace, on the job, learning for a minimum period of 12 months verifiable through a workplace learning record (e.g logbook).
ARPL Trade Test Requirements
The qualifying criteria categories are the following:
- Minimum three (3) years relevant work experience within South Africa and N2 four subjects certificate or equivalent qualification including relevant trade theory. OR
- Minimum three (3) years relevant work experience within South Africa and Relevant Engineering NC(V) NQF level 3. OR
- Minimum three (3) years relevant work experience within South Africa and Technical Grade 12 with Maths, Engineering Science and related theory subject. OR
- Minimum Eighteen (18) months relevant work experience within South Africa, completed of all relevant work experience modules and Relevant Engineering NC(V) NQF level 4. OR
- Minimum Eighteen (18) months relevant work experience within South Africa and relevant (directly related to the trade theory subjects) N6 certificate or National Technical Diploma (S and N Stream)
- Minimum four (4) years work experience within South Africa with Grade 9 (Standard 7)
- Successful completion of merSETA registered NQF Level 2, 3 and 4 trade related learnerships with minimum two (2) years, inclusive of the institutional and workplace components OR
- Former apprentice who have met the section 13 trade test requirements and their contract got rescinded before qualifying as artisan.
- Former apprentices under Section 13 terminated before they could qualify for trade test, and either have proven eligibility for Artisan RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) trade test based on acquired skills from the formal training part under Section 13, or have undergone additional approved training to meet the requirement.
Qualifications
We put high priority in ensuring that the relevant accreditation are met and maintained. The trade test completion would award the student with a “red Seal” certificate from QCTO
Learning Methods and Delivery
All our trade test preparations are delivered in a practical workshop environment. We have state of the art campus build and constructed as a virtual workplace environment where learners are prepared to take the trade test. Therefore, it is recommended that before a trade test is done the learner first concludes the preparation to close possible gaps in their training.
